FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
What’s this website really all about?
This 2020 Global Pandemic has played havoc with every person in the entire world – in different ways of course but still turning people’s lives upside down. Countries started literally shutting everything down, the entire world was shut down. 2020 was going to become known as ‘The Year the World Stood Still’!
We have not seen anything of this magnitude in over 100 years, not since the Spanish Flu that started in 1918 – 1920. We have no idea what those people really went through – sure we can read a bit about it in the History books or some articles on the internet but really that’s it.
There just had to be a way that ‘we’ could immortalize what we have gone through for future generations and so that’s how ‘2020 The Year the World Stood Still’ idea began.
We wanted to build a website that people could leave their messages, thoughts, tributes, memorials in one place on the internet, where people from all over the world could come and read these messages and it would be there for future generations to read exactly what 2020 was really like for us. Not what the health organizations, politicians and governments wanted us to know and think but what ‘we the people’ really and truly lived through.
We light a candle for so many things…
• The candle symbolizes light in the darkness of life especially individual life
• Lit in times of death, they signify the light in the next world
• Lighting a candle is a long-held practice in many cultural, family and faith traditions.
• The practice is common across international borders and societies
• Lighting candles can bring serenity, focus and comfort to participants
What if people could light a ‘virtual’ candle and leave a personal message?
…But there had to be more. What if we could find a way to help people as well!
The AHA moment!
Let’s donate a portion of ALL sales to Charities all over the world!
Charities are now struggling as well. Without the ability to be able to fundraise and with limited donations coming in Charities that are meant to help people are now in jeopardy themselves…
So how much is a virtual candle?
Do I pay taxes?
Canadian residence – taxes are included.
Can I give a candle as a gift?
Once you have purchased the candle, you will be given a code that you can send to the recipient and they will use that code during the payment process.
Can I get a refund if I change my mind?
What can and can’t my message say?
We encourage you to put whatever you feel like in your message whether it’s an encouraging message or a dedication / tribute or a memorial.
We only ask that you do not use profanity, sexuality or spam (your message will be removed).
Why does it take up to 24 hours before my message is posted?
Unfortunately, we are not able to make the process of placing your message automatic. We also want to ensure that the messages do not violate our message policy.
We are working hard at getting the messages up as quickly as possible and you will receive an email when your message has been pinned to our World Map.
What’s ‘The Initiative’?
The Initiative is a BIG, BOLD & AMBITIOUS idea!
We want to raise $1 Million Dollars for Charities all over the world.
How much from my purchase is being donated?

Will I receive a Tax Receipt for the donation?
How do I know where my donation is going?
